San Diego Herpetological Society – September Meeting

Date & Time: Tuesday, September 16th at 7:00 PM
Location: Balboa Park, Casa del Prado, Room 104

We’re excited to welcome Susan Nowicke, Founder and Executive Director of EcoVivarium, for our September in-person meeting.

Susan will be sharing the story and mission of the EcoVivarium Reptile Sanctuary & Museum in Escondido — a place of discovery, learning, and growth. Attendees will hear firsthand about the sanctuary’s rescue and rehabilitation work, its role in lifelong animal care, and its powerful educational programs that inspire compassion, conservation literacy, and community connection.

Susan may also bring along some special reptile and amphibian ambassadors for us to meet in person!

About EcoVivarium
Located at 641 E Pennsylvania Avenue in Escondido, EcoVivarium rescues, rehabilitates, and provides lifelong sanctuary for reptiles, amphibians, and arthropods while empowering people of all abilities through immersive, cross-disciplinary education. Their mission is built on three pillars:

  • Compassionate Rescue & Lifelong Sanctuary: Providing permanent refuge and expert care for abandoned or displaced animals, ensuring they live safely and serve as ambassadors for their species.

  • Inclusive, Hands-On Education: Delivering learning experiences that blend science, art, and culture — engaging all learners, including neurodivergent individuals.

  • Environmental Stewardship & Community Connection: Promoting conservation literacy and encouraging people to take responsible action for the planet.

Don’t miss this opportunity to learn about the work of one of San Diego’s most unique reptile and amphibian sanctuaries — and maybe meet a few of its scaly (or slimy!) residents!
