San Diego Herpetological Society – October Meeting
Date & Time: Tuesday, October 21st at 7:00 PM
Location: Balboa Park, Casa del Prado, Room 104
We’re thrilled to welcome Dr. Emily Taylor, Professor of Biological Sciences at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, for our October SDHS meeting.
Dr. Taylor has devoted her career to studying reptiles, with research spanning environmental physiology, reproductive biology, and the role of hormones in reptile behavior. She earned her Ph.D. in Biology from Arizona State University, where she spent six years tracking rattlesnakes in the Sonoran Desert. Today, she oversees the Physiological Ecology of Reptiles Lab (PERL) at Cal Poly, training students in field and laboratory techniques while continuing her passion for research and outreach.
In addition to her academic work, Dr. Taylor is an accomplished author. Her books include beautifully photographed guides on California Snakes and California Lizards, which highlight the incredible diversity of these reptiles, their natural history, and the conservation challenges they face. These books will be available at the meeting, and attendees will have the chance to get a signed copy.
Her presentation will focus on California field herping, illustrated with striking photographs from her books, and will include exciting updates on Project RattleCam — a groundbreaking initiative that livestreams rattlesnake behavior directly from their natural habitat. You can explore the livestream anytime at RattleCam.org.
✨ All ages are welcome, and this is a wonderful opportunity for families, students, and enthusiasts to connect with one of California’s leading reptile scientists. Plus, we may even have the chance to meet some live native herps in person!
Be sure to register above to reserve your spot — seating is limited.
