Event: SDHS January Meeting – Aquarist Jackson Vu on Mountain Yellow-Legged Frog Conservation
Date & Time: Tuesday, January 20th, 7:00 PM
Location: Balboa Park – Prado Classroom 104 San Diego, CA
Details:
Join the San Diego Herpetological Society for our first meeting of 2026 as we welcome Aquarist Jackson Vu, a core member of the conservation team behind one of Southern California’s most important amphibian recovery efforts.
Jackson played an essential role in the rearing of endangered Mountain Yellow-Legged Frog tadpoles into healthy adult frogs, contributing directly to a major milestone for the species.
Recently, Birch Aquarium, in partnership with the San Diego Zoo and the California Department of Fish & Wildlife (CDFW), successfully completed their first release of a cohort of Mountain Yellow-Legged Frogs back into the wild. This achievement marks a significant step forward for the recovery of this critically endangered species.

At this meeting, Jackson will share insights into:
How tadpoles are raised and transitioned into healthy adult frogs
The specialty care, environmental setups, and monitoring required for success
The multi-agency collaboration that made the release possible
Conservation challenges and the future outlook for this native species
This is an excellent opportunity for members, students, and community wildlife enthusiasts to learn about real-world conservation success happening right here in Southern California.
