Junior Herp Club Field Trip at the Living Coast Discovery Center

Event Overview:

Join us for a fun-filled and educational field trip hosted by the San Diego Herpetological Society (SDHS) at the Living Coast Discovery Center (LCDC)! This event is perfect for young herp enthusiasts and families who want to explore reptiles, amphibians, and wildlife in the beautiful environment of the LCDC.

The day will include exciting activities like a Herping Walk along the refuge trails to search for local reptiles and amphibians, as well as animal presentations and a chance to meet and greet with wildlife. It’s a hands-on experience that will inspire a deeper connection to nature and herpetology.

Schedule:

  • 10:00 AM: Arrive at the LCDC parking lot. Park and take the shuttle to the refuge.

  • 10:15 AM: Check-in and Wildlife Meet & Greet.

  • 10:30 AM: Guided Herping Walk on the refuge trails, looking for native herps in the wild.

  • 11:30 AM: Another Wildlife Meet & Greet session with animals at LCDC.

  • 12:00 PM: Free time and Lunch – please bring your own sack lunch.

After the field trip, the Living Coast Discovery Center will be open from 10 AM to 5 PM, giving you the opportunity to explore more exhibits and learn about local wildlife at your leisure.

How to Participate:

This event is free to SDHS Junior Herp Club members, but pre-registration is required. Space is limited, so make sure to register early!

What to Bring:

  • Comfortable clothing and shoes for walking

  • A camera for wildlife photos

  • A sack lunch for the break

  • Your enthusiasm for herping and wildlife!
