Topic: Herpetology in New and Ancient Cities
Join us for our monthly meeting as we welcome Dr. Kinsey Brock, a leading researcher in herpetology, to speak about her fascinating work on the ecology, behavior, and evolution of reptiles and amphibians—particularly in the context of urban environments. Dr. Brock’s research examines how urbanization and climate change influence the evolution of herptiles, particularly lizards, and explores how these species adapt to rapidly changing environments.
Dr. Brock’s work spans a range of exciting areas:
-
Urbanization and its impact on thermoregulation and anti-predator behavior in herptiles.
-
How rapid human landscape modifications and global climate change affect herpetile evolution.
-
The potential for certain phenotypes to thrive in urban environments and adapt to city life.
Her integrative research includes field studies, laboratory experiments, and phylogenetic analyses, with research taking place in regions like Southern California, Greece, and Italy.
Dr. Brock's Background:
-
Ph.D. in Quantitative & Systems Biology (University of California, Merced)
-
M.S. in Conservation Ecology (University of Michigan)
-
B.S. in Program in the Environment (University of Michigan)
-
B.A. in Art & Design (University of Michigan)
