SDHS Monthly Meeting

Two Seasons Observing the Red Diamond Rattlesnake: Crotalus ruber in the California Coastal Sage Scrub

Date: Tuesday, October 15th
Time: 7:00 PM
Location: Balboa Park, Casa Del Prado Building, Room 104

Overview: Join us for an engaging presentation on the red diamond rattlesnake (Crotalus ruber), an at-risk species inhabiting one of the most endangered habitat types on the planet: California coastal sage scrub.

Our speaker, Emma McAndrews, will share insights gained from two years of close observation and research, utilizing both novel biologging technology and traditional observation methods. This presentation aims to shed light on the behavioral details of this beautiful rattlesnake, enhancing our understanding of its ecology and conservation needs.

Our Speaker: Emma McAndrews is a lifelong naturalist with a profound passion for biodiversity. After earning a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from the University of California, Santa Cruz, she volunteered in Barry Sinervo's behavioral ecology lab, focusing on the care of lizards and salamanders. Currently, she is in the final year of her Master’s degree at San Diego State University in Rulon Clark's lab, where she continues to explore her love for reptiles and amphibians.

Who Should Attend: This meeting is open to anyone interested in herpetology, conservation, and the natural history of reptiles. Whether you're a seasoned herpetologist or simply curious about these fascinating creatures, all are welcome to attend!

We look forward to seeing you there!

Please be sure to register above.
