SDHS ADOPTION SUCCESS STORY
He is an Inland Bearded Dragon. But because he had been housed in an inadequate environment, he failed to develop and he is small for his age. His tail is bent and twisted. The bones in his legs are soft and useless and they cannot support his meager weight. The lack of calcium in his system has left his spine shrunken and curved. His jaw has not developed and he cannot eat well. His head growth has not kept up with the size of his beard leaving him looking even more deformed. We would like to introduce to you our little friend that we have named Quasimoto. Last year his owner returned him to a local reptile store and SDHS Adoptions was called and asked to see if he was capable of being rehabilitated. Quasi was "foster cared" for by our Adoptions Coordinator, Cheryl Smith. After months of hand feeding and several trips to the vet, Quasi had learned to get around quite well on his crippled legs and had won our hearts with his spunky attitude. It was a joy to see his perseverance. In fact, we all swore he didn’t even know he was crippled. One of his favorite pastimes was chasing all the female beardies he could! Cheryl would take Quasimoto back to the pet shop as an educational tool to help instruct potential buyers on the importance of proper herp care. The store staff was always excited to see Quasi had made so much improvement. On one of her store visits, Cheryl met someone from La Jolla that instantly fell in love with Quasimoto. She started emailing Cheryl and insisting she "just had to have the little guy." After several interviews, Quasimoto was placed in his new home, where we hear he reigns supreme! 04-20-08 . . .
