TOKAY GECKO

(Gecko gecko)

 

DISTRIBUTION: Southeast Asia. 

TEMPERAMENT: A very aggressive animal, will attempt to bite. Can be kept together if plenty of hiding areas provided and kept well fed.

HARDINESS: Extremely hardy and very easily maintained in captivity. 

SEXING: Males tend to be larger and have pre-anal and femoral pores. 

FOOD: Nutrient fed crickets, kingworms, jumbo mealworms, waxworms, butterwoms, cockroaches and small mice. 

HOUSING: Minimum size vivarium for an individual is 10 gallons (38 liter). Two or more would require 20 gallons (76 liter) or more sized vivarium. Use orchid bark as a substrate. Landscape with cork bark slabs, hollow logs, driftwood, rocks and slate. 

WATER: Provide a shallow dish of water always. Clean daily. Should be misted daily. 

TEMPERATURE/HUMIDITY: Day 75F-88F (24C-31C) gradient. Night 70F-75F (21C-24C.) Moderate humidity. Mist cage daily. 

LIGHTING: No special lighting required. 

HEATING: An incandescent bulb in a reflector situated at one end of the vivarium will provide gradient heat. Use either a red or black light bulb if night time heat is required. 

GENERAL NOTES: Tokay Geckos make great display animals. They are also used in homes or insect control.
