DISTRIBUTION:
Northeastern Africa.SIZE: Up to 30 inches (76 cm.)
TEMPERAMENT: Docile, may be kept in groups.
HARDINESS: Very hardy when properly set up and maintained.
SEXING: Males have enlarged femoral pores.
FOOD: Leafy green vegetables, broccoli, green beans, grains, millet sprays, edible flowers, and alfalfa hay. Occasionally crickets and other insects may be taken. Must receive calcium supplements twice weekly and vitamins once a week.
HOUSING: Hatchlings require a 15 gallon (57 liter) vivarium. Adults need a 60 gallon (228 liter) vivarium. Use sand as a substrate. Landscape with hollow logs, rocks and driftwood.
WATER: Most water requirements met with a proper diet. Should be offered water for 5-10 minutes every 10 to 14 days.
TEMPERATURE/HUMIDITY: Day 80F-110F (27C-43C) gradient. Night 75F-82F (24C-28C.) No humidity.
LIGHTING: Unfiltered natural sunlight is best. When it cannot be provided, use fluorescent full spectrum/UV radiation reptile lights.
HEATING: An under tank heater will provide surface heat. An incandescent light bulb in a reflector situated at one end of the vivarium will provide the proper daytime heat gradients. Use a thermometer.
GENERAL NOTES: Most species of Uromastyx can be set up and maintained under like conditions.
